English National Ballet presents a double bill featuring Roland Petit's Le Jeune Homme et La Mort and Frank Andersen’s recreation of the beloved classic La Sylphide, performed for the first time in the UK.
Le Jeune Homme et la Mort
Last performed by English National Ballet in 2013, Roland Petit’s Le Jeune Homme et la Mort follows a young man hopelessly in love with a cruel and faithless mistress. He waits desperately for her, but when she finally arrives, she torments him. Distraught and confused, the young man succumbs to his despair.
La Sylphide
On the morning of his wedding to his sweet fiancée Effy, James awakens from a dream to see a mysterious and tantalising Sylphide before him. His obsession with her sets off a fateful sequence of events where joy turns to sorrow, love to betrayal and infatuation to tragedy.
August Bournonville’s classic Romantic ballet is devotedly recreated by Eva Kloborg and Frank Andersen in this captivating production, and is accompanied by an enchanting score, played live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.

Excellent value. First rate playing and dancing. The quality of each performance was exceptional. A very enjoyable evening.
I really enjoyed it, great set and sound and dancers!
I'm not sure I understood it completely but fantastic dancing.
Wonderful performance!!! Well done!! Amazing!!!
It was different but enjoyed it Its the first experience I have had of men ballet dancing in kilts!
Enjoyable afternoon and nice atmosphere in the audience
Le Jeune Homme et la Mort was beautifully danced, if a bit grim; La Sylphide was wonderful. Loved it.
Great performance, shame it wasn't fully booked. Rather long intervals. It would have been lovely if the bagpipes were actually played.
Didn't like Le Jean Homme et la Mort for its subject and wouldn't choose to see it again. However I thought the dancing was excellent and the dancer's dresses beautifully cut. Le Sylphide is a favourite of mine for the Scottish theme, dancing steps and costumes, so I loved it as ever. I thought the male lead dancer was terrific and his turns and leaps were thrilling (Thursday matinee).
Always wanted to see La Jeune homme. Mr Hernandez did not disappoint!!!!
Did not like the storyline of Le Jeune Homme. Also thought the male choreography more like an Olympic Gymnast than 'Modern Ballet'. All aspects of La Sylphide were brilliant. Most enjoyable. As a musician,I had not heard of this composer.Wonderfully played by the orchestra. Peter Oxer
Excellent top quality ballet at a bargain ticket price in a brilliant venue. Great seats too!
